3 Reasons We Need More Women’s Voices in Podcasting
As an avid listener of podcasts, I really want to hear more women’s voices in podcasting. And it’s not just because of the overwhelming amount of content from so many infamous male podcasters - even though that’s part of it. Podcasting is a great way for women to communicate with each other. There’s so much knowledge that’s been lost to time because we haven’t been able to prioritize our voices. Now that we have a platform that prioritizes our voice and so many people are actually listening, it’s important for us to take a leap of faith and throw our names in the pot.
We deserve to be heard too.
And while the podcasting space is growing, it’s not over-saturated. I’m constantly on the hunt for new podcasts whether they’re ongoing with no end in sight or a limited series. There’s room for you in this podcast space, and I want you to claim it. In this blog post, I am going to try and give you a little push in the right direction. Here are three reasons we need more women’s voices in podcasting.
We Need Your Voice
Every single person has something important to say. That includes you! Whether you’re podcasting for your brand or just for fun, you’re telling the world that you’re sharing something important and they can listen if they want to.
And if you’re podcasting for your business, using your voice in such a public space demonstrates confidence in yourself. You are positioning yourself as the expert, you know how valuable your talents are, and you know that you can help people. Take a leap of faith and have the absolute audacity to use your voice. Chances are there’s someone waiting to listen to what you have to say, especially if you have a curated community like Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok followers.
Breaking up Myths and Misinformation
Podcasts often get the reputation of being opinion pieces, but my favorite genre of podcasts are the educational ones. Especially if that information is not easily accessible.
My clients have been thought leaders in their community that want to destigmatize some of the more personal corners of their industry. I worked with a PCOS dietitian who wanted to break up destructive narratives and give people the information they needed to heal and prosper even while managing a physically debilitating condition.
She was able to do just that through her podcast. Her knowledge was so widely well received that she was able to sell courses and create exclusive content for audience members who wanted to work with her in group settings and one-on-one as clients. They invested in her because of the information she was able to share through her podcast 🎤
Being Visible
I want women to take up more space in their chosen industry. Whether it’s male-dominated or not, Women tend to make themselves smaller in professional settings. We keep our heads down, do the work, and go beyond for sometimes less than we deserve. We want to be more confident but we’re not really sure how.
Podcasting is a great repetitive practice to strengthen your voice and find like-minded people while you do it. By voicing your thoughts sharing your expertise and inviting guests onto your show you are making yourself more visible and taking up space in your industry as an expert. You deserve to have a seat at the table, so pull up a chair and start talking.
These are three reasons why we need more women’s voices in podcasting. But another strong and super validating reason is just that you want to. If you’ve been sitting on an incredible podcast idea I challenge you to explore it see where it goes and enjoy yourself. You’d be surprised how much of a difference a year of podcasting makes for you and your brand.
