Are you using your friends love so you’re not alone? #Euphoria

For the past few weeks, we’ve watched Jules (played by Hunter Schafer) act like she’s in love with Rue (played by Zendaya). She’s not. She’s been using Rue as a stand-in love interest for the headless Grinder profile pic that actually turned out to be the sadistic Nate. As time passes, Nate grows incrementally more psycho and Jules turns to Rue in order to get the affection she thought she was going to get from Grindr and ignore the shame she carries from being wrong about Grinder dude. In the end, Rue’s now sober ass is getting the worst of it. She knows that Jules doesn’t love her the same way Rue loves Jules, she watches Jules suffer in silence as Nate wraps up his sinister plan, and she can’t even find solace in the drugs she’s itching to reach for because she knows it will eventually kill her. To avoid all this in your own life, please see the checklist below and make sure you aren’t using your friends love so you’re not alone. And, Jules, if you’re reading, this one’s for you.

  1. Do you love them?

I mean, I know, obviously. You spend all day with them, text them all day, and share niche memes about inside jokes only you guys know about. But you know what I mean. Are you going on dates or hanging out? Can you kiss them and mean it, or because you know they want it? Are you having fun or are you waiting out the loneliness? Jules kissed Rue and jumped into this relationship as soon as she found out Grinder dude was Nate. She took all the affection she had for this guy and threw it at Rue like a bone. If this sounds like you, you need to break it off.

2. Are you hurting them?

“I’m a burden.” Zendaya’s voice cracked as she admits what she’s probably been holding in since she got back from rehab. Knowing that Jules doesn’t love her and having a sober brain made Rue search for the reason why she isn’t enough for Jules. It’s because she’s a worthless drug addict that needs everyone’s help to get clean. At least that’s what she’s probably thinking while she watches Jules walk away from her, sans kiss.

3. Are you doing more harm than good?

Rue is cracking and you’re breaking her, Jules. She looked stronger when she was on drugs. At the very least she was used to the kind of pain the drugs brought. This is heartbreak you’re dragging her through is new. Do you know how much you’re hurting her? Are you ignoring the sad look in her eyes when she looks at you? When you glance at her over her shoulder? It’s not because she misses the drugs. It’s because she misses you, her new drug. She needs a hit from a Jule(s) but she’s not in control. If this sounds like you, you need to break it off.

4. Is it enough?

No.

If this sounds like you, break it off.
